Sunday, April 04, 2010 Happy Easter, by now you all are reeling over the passage of the healthcare reform bill. In addition to that it looks like there are additional issues popping up with world treaties in regards to gun control and demil of military brass again! I hope everyone plans to vote in the next election. In the meantime we are on Thursday, October 15, 2009 I subscribe to Founder’s Quote Daily and today's quote brought some thoughts to mind. Some would say that our form of government is broken. I disagree. The form of government may not perfect but the attitude of the people who are there to “represent the citizens” are most certainly broken and corrupt. [with a few exceptions] I am not that old even though I am approaching the second half of a century. I was raised and taught values and history of our great country. The plan was ideal. To have separate branches of government to balance and guarantee our freedoms for many years to come. Basically there are four. The House of representatives is to represent the people, the Senate was to represent the interests of the States, the Supreme Court to make sure that we adhered to our constitution and bill of rights, and finally the President who would see to the security and wellbeing of the country as a whole. The plan has been successful for the better part of 200 years before things started to really get out of hand. I believe that the only way that we are to return to the founders principals is for people of principal to represent us. That can only be done through the people of the country voting for people of real principal not those who promise the most goodies! Or Revolution. Benjamin Franklin when asked what form of government had been decided at the convention answered. “A Republic if you can keep it!” What did he mean? A republican form of government requires that the people take responsibility for themselves and hold their representatives accountable. The nature of man is often to take the easy road and when we do that we start to lose our freedoms, because we no longer hold our representatives accountable. Now with the current protests over healthcare, bailouts, and spending you would think that our representatives would listen! The problem is they are BROKEN and CORRUPT and they feel that they are wiser and know better what is good for the people. In the end it is we who decide what form of government we have. Do you like the path we are on or do you agree that our forefathers were wise, and think that we can take our country back from the precipice of disaster. We need to act now! Get involved, study our history, and stay informed. Always be skeptical of government bearing gifts as those gifts may well enslave you. DK Thursday, September 17, 2009 Well the 3rd annual CCW forum with the NV Sheriffs & Chiefs Assoc. is behind us. Following is a few highlights of the meeting. · YES the NV SCA supports revising the law to any semi auto · They clarified that if your permit still has the old make model caliber for a revolver on it, you do NOT need to qualify with any new revolvers, you already qualify for ANY Revolver. · They are working on getting another letter of memorandum for Brady exemption but communication has been difficult with BATF. Senator Ensign has been trying to facilitate communications to hopefully move this forward but we will still be required to address it in the next legislature to clarify the requirements in the law. · The application has been standardized for all counties. · Explained why NV dropped UT [no live fire required] & FL [renewal changed to 7 yrs] · Clarified that deadly weapons are NOT allowed in vehicles when traveling through North Las Vegas or Boulder City, Permit does not exempt. However carrying outside of vehicle is ok in NLV There is still some disagreement as to how the law passed in 2007 might have affected this but for now that is how they enforce it. Weapons must be locked up and inaccessible. · All instructors who have been approved by the Sheriff in their county are thereby approved for all counties. · The NV SCA still does not think that the open meeting law applies to them as a private organization. There is some argument that it does because they make decisions regarding public policy in relationship to the recognition of states, and set minimum requirements for CCW instruction. · The NV SCA has appointed Larry Rhodes of Fallon as citizen representative to be a part of the CCW subcommittee.
Saturday, August 15, 2009 Clearing Up the Rumors: The Truth About The "Gun Tax Bill" -- Over the past few months, NRA-ILA has received hundreds of e-mails warning us about "SB-2099," a bill that would supposedly require you to report all your guns on your income tax return every April 15. Like many rumors, there's just a grain of truth to this one. Someone's recycling an old alert, which wasn't even very accurate when it was new. [ click on the heading link to read more ] To read a story by NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox on this and other rumors, please click here.
Monday, July 06, 2009 I hope everyone had a wonderful Independence Day celebrating our freedom. We spent the weekend with some friends at our place, shooting guns and swapping stories. I spent two weeks of June in Idaho. Spent four days shooting the MGM Iron Man 3-Gun. Big Fun! Then the following week spent setting up and running the USPSA Area 1 Pistol Championships. My job was Range Master, and I would like to thank all the people who made the event happen. Tim Egan, Mike Wirth, Aron Goodfellow and all the staff, RO’s, Boy Scouts, Stats, etc. Without all of them this event would not have happened. They did an excellent job!
Monday, June 01, 2009 The year is flying by and the NV Legislature is almost finished…? Governor Gibbons Vetoed the Apprentice Hunter Bill and now the legislature must pass it again to over ride that Veto. Call your representatives if you want them to support this legislation. On another note, one of my Pet Peeves is that I receive several e-rumors daily that an easy internet search or checking it out with the NRA or other gun rights groups would prove it to be just that, a RUMOR. PLEASE verify the validity of any message that you forward. If you don’t it wastes everyone’s limited time that we all could be using to be productive fighting the real enemies and issues out there. Celebrate your freedom by speaking out, and Thank a Vet! Friday, May 22, 2009 Wishing you a wonderful Memorial Day. Please remember our men and women who have served our country in the military in the past and present. Keep them in your prayers. Thank a Vet! Earlier today, the Nevada Senate unanimously passed Assembly Bill 246. The bill now heads to the desk of Governor Jim Gibbons (R) for his consideration. AB246 would establish an apprentice hunting license that would allow prospective hunters 12 years old and older to try their hand at hunting before completing a hunter education course. Apprentice hunters would be required to be directly supervised in the field by a mentor who is at least 18 years old and who holds a valid Nevada hunting license. Experience in more than two dozen other states shows that this apprentice hunting program is exceptionally safe and will bring many new hunters into the field. The Nevada bill AB246 is progressing keep up the support. Obama is at it again. We must be vigilant. At this point all I can say is there is not much that I like about what is going on and watching our constitution be stepped on is causing me great pain. We must let our representatives know that we do like what is going on and that they need to stop now! Saturday, April 25, 2009 Well good news and bad news. The Castle Doctrine bill died in committee without a hearing because the Chairman Bernie Andersen apparently did not think it warranted one. I hear the reason is that he did not like it. With term limits he had no fear of retribution from his constituents, so good riddance. I am also disappointed that the resolution of state sovereignty died as well. GOOD NEWS is that the Apprentice Hunting bill is still Alive. Please contact your legislators in support of this good legislation. If you have been watching the news as I have you are pulling your hair out with all the insane activity from the new administration jeopardizing not only our financial futures but our National Security. Please be informed and let your Representatives know how you feel. Tuesday, April 07, 2009 The list of bills to the right are all firearm related. The ones highlighted in color are of real importance. Red means the bill is in danger of dying due to no hearing and not being passed in committee by April 10th. AB288 has the support of most on the committee but the Chairman has decided that he does not like it and does not intend to give it a hearing. If you are in the Washoe Co district represented by Bernie Anderson please put pressure on him to give this bill a hearing and a vote. Green indicates a hearing is scheduled this week. Please contact your legislators and express your support for each of these. Sunday March 15, 2009 Castle Doctrine legislation has been introduced in Nevada. Everyone should support this bill AB288. Tomorrow is the deadline for legislators to introduce their bills. If we do not see a bill to resolve our issues with BATF and our CCW permit exemption it will likely be another 2 years before that will be addressed. Committee introductions have until next Monday. It does not look promising. Friday, February 27, 2009 Well there you have it “They” intend on reinstating the Assault Weapons Ban, as promised in the election. And don’t let us fool ourselves, the list of prohibitions will be longer and they will likely try to pass it as permanent and retroactive. No time line on this yet, but you would think they had more important business. At least they are up front about it. HR-45 is still a non mover at this time buried in a subcommittee with no Co Sponsors. We will keep a vigilant eye on this one and look for the upcoming Assault on our 2nd Amendment Rights. Remember that there is Pro-Gun legislation in Congress as well. The National Right-To-Carry Reciprocity bills S-371 & HR-197 have been introduced, and unlike HR-45 they have Co-Sponsors! So all is not bad. It is important to contact legislators and ask for their support for the Positive stuff too! Monday, February 16, 2009 They are at it again and we need to be more vigilant than ever. The idiots on capital hill just voted our children and grandchildren a huge debt! For what! ?“we must do something”? Bull S***. They are creating a bigger problem than what they are trying to fix. HR-45 “Holt Bill” The gun owner registration bill has been introduced again! At this time there are no legislators interested in co-sponsoring it. It has been referred to committee where hopefully it will die, and not get attached to some totally unrelated legislation down the road. Get signed up to the alert emails offered by several of the pro gun rights groups out there. It pays to be up to date on the latest shenanigans in D.C.. Go to— http://thomas.loc.gov/ and type in HR-45 and search Bill Number. Monday, February 09, 2009 I added some links to information on some current National legislation potentially affecting our firearm rights. I am watching the Nevada State Legislature for the same as well, but we have yet to get our bill draft requests filed as actual bills on the floor. I am currently watching three BDR’s and will update this blog when update is available. Tuesday, January 20, 2009 Inauguration day. Seems like gun owners have been in a panic since election day and does not look like letting up soon. We are certain to expect legislation attacking our 2nd amendment rights. What we should not do is sit back and let it happen without a fight. If you have never contacted your elected representatives before, this is the time to finally step up. There are all kinds of resources out there put in place by pro gun organizations making that contact on gun issues easier than ever. They even summarize the legislation to help you understand it so that you can communicate effectively. A couple of suggestions; Be Clear and Be Polite. You have no excuses, it is up to us to take action. Get educated on what your legislators are up to. Pick up the torch. Be a Patriot, make our Founding Fathers Proud |

"[W]hereas, to preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them; nor does it follow from this, that all promiscuously must go into actual service on every occasion. The mind that aims at a select militia, must be influenced by a truly anti-republican principle; and when we see many men disposed to practice upon it, whenever they can prevail, no wonder true republicans are for carefully guarding against it." --Richard Henry Lee, Letters from the Federal Farmer, 1788 |
|
"Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? It is feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man against his own bosom. Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American. ...[T]he unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people." --A Pennsylvanian, The Pennsylvania Gazette, 20 February 1788 |
|
"The regular distribution of power into distinct departments; the introduction of legislative balances and checks; the institution of courts composed of judges holding their offices during good behavior; the representation of the people in the legislature by deputies of their own election... They are means, and powerful means, by which the excellences of republican government may be retained and its imperfections lessened or avoided." --Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 9, 1787 |
|
"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks." --Thomas Jefferson, letter to Peter Carr, 1785 |
